Have you seen the New York Times feature Snow Fall? How about Firestorm from the Guardian? These interactive, multimedia features represent the direction that online storytelling is going using the new capabilities of HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. Think about the powerful constituent stories and annual reports you could do using these techniques.

The examples above were expensive to produce - far outside the means of most nonprofits. But it's only a matter of time before there will be tools available that will make it possible for non-coders to develop similar pages. Done right, these techniques can provide an immersive experience that static pages don't. Of course shiny, fancy tech tools are no replacement for substance and a good concept!

TechSoup provides technology for nonprofits and they also have a lot of additional How-To articles to beef up your knowledge and expertise. While the products are free, organizations usually have to pay an administration fee but in in my experience the fee is much less that the retail cost of the product. Their allotment of popular products such as Adobe software tends to go fast so it pays to order early. If your organization is feeling the bite of reduced budgets, this is a great place to look for tech.
